North Carolina State's Rakeim Ashford was taken off the field on a stretcher after falling awkwardly during Thursday's game against Connecticut.
Ashford, a graduate student in his fourth season with the NC State program, was injured in the latter stages of the third quarter during a kickoff after a late shove by UConn's Isiah Davis, who received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the play.
Ashford lay motionless for about 10 minutes while he was attended to by trainers and medical personnel. He gave a thumbs-up to the crowd as he was being wheeled off the field.
The Athletic, citing CBS, reported that Ashford was taken to a nearby hospital. He reported having feeling in his extremities.
"Everything I've been told has been positive," NC State coach Dave Doeren said after the Wolfpack's 24-14 win, per the Fayetteville Observer, part of the USA TODAY Network. "They're gonna keep him overnight to make sure, but every test that they've done so far has been OK. ... So far, so good."
